Local Yarn Shop Day 2025
with Double the Stitches
LYS Day 2025 is almost here, and once again I'm celebrating all the things that I cherish most about Local Yarn Shops. These intimate spaces serve as a gathering space for all those with a love and passion for the fiber community.
Local Yarn Store Day is a brick-and-mortar yarn shop appreciation day created by TNNA members. The seventh annual LYS Day will take place the weekend of Saturday, April 26th and Sunday, April 27th and is designed to show support for small businesses while bringing together a unique community of knitters, crocheters, weavers and spinners to drive awareness and celebrate the craft.
Vendors and retailers alike are coming together to showcase the benefits of locally owned yarn stores through an array of special products, classes, and more, and I'm so proud to be one of them!
How does this event work?
To support all the wonderful Local Yarn Stores, the Double Win Mosaic Shawl pattern will be FREE with the purchase of the yarn to make it the weekend of LYS Day - Saturday, April 26th and Sunday, April 27th - from participating yarn shops.
Your participating LYS will provide you with a Ravelry Coupon Code so you can download your copy of the shawl pattern from Ravelry.
A Low Vision and Screen Reader Accessible version of the pattern is also included! I’m on a mission to help increase the number of knitting patterns available for those with Low Vision and those who use Screen Readers to access patterns. Your pattern download includes 2 PDF files.

About the Double Win Mosaic Shawl Pattern:
For my sixth annual Local Yarn Store Day design, I am continuing to celebrate the beautiful, mutually beneficial relationship between knitters and their beloved yarn shops.
Enter the Double Win Shawl - a striking mosaic knit shawl that embodies the joy of community, creativity, and connection.
This rectangular shawl with gently flared ends weaves together two contrasting colors, each playing a vital role in creating bold, eye-catching patterns with simple slipped stitches.
The result? A cozy, wearable piece that looks intricate but is easy and satisfying to knit.
Much like the bond between knitters and their local yarn stores, Double Win is built on harmony.
Yarn shops offer knitters a space to learn, find inspiration, and connect with others who share their passion. They thoughtfully curate a collection of quality yarns and helpful supplies, selecting each item with their community in mind.
In return, knitters help these shops flourish by expanding their stashes with inspiration for future projects, growing their skills through classes, and participating in the vibrant, creative community that makes each store unique. Their support of these independent small businesses truly makes a difference.

you’re celebrating the heart of your local yarn store.
What will you need to knit your own Double Win Shawl?
The Double Win Mosaic Shawl uses 3 skeins of Light Fingering Weight Yarn in two contrasting colors (75% Superwash Merino Wool, 25% Nylon); 462 yds/422 m per 100 g);
• approximately 450 yds/412 m in Color A (light), and
• approximately 820 yds/750 m in Color B (dark)
You'll also need ...
• US 5/3.75 mm 32"/80 cm circular needle (or size needed to obtain gauge)
• 17 Stitch Markers
• Darning Needle
A note about yarn:
If you are using a heavier fingering weight yarn with fewer yards per 100 grams (i.e., 400 yards per 100 grams), I will share options for adjusting the original pattern.
Combine solid, speckle, gentle tonal, or long gradient yarns that coordinate but aren’t too perfectly matched so the mosaic stitches will shine.
Sharply variegated colorways are not recommended for this design.

The Free LYS Day Pattern Codes will be active from Friday, April 25th at 8:00 AM Eastern until Sunday, April 27th at 11:59 PM Eastern.
Make sure to enter the code from your LYS on Ravelry! Click “add to cart” and then “use a coupon code” before checking out.
If you are purchasing yarn online to be shipped to you, kindly ask to have your unique one-time use code sent via email, so you may download the pattern while waiting for your yarn to arrive.
