with Double the Stitches
LYS Day 2024 is almost here, and once again I'm celebrating all the things that I cherish most about Local Yarn Shops. These intimate spaces serve as a gathering space for all those with a love and passion for the fiber community.
Local Yarn Store Day is a brick-and-mortar yarn shop appreciation day created by TNNA members. The seventh annual LYS Day will take place on April 27th and is designed to show support for small businesses while bringing together a unique community of knitters, crocheters, weavers and spinners to drive awareness and celebrate the craft. Vendors and retailers alike are coming together to showcase the benefits of locally owned yarn stores through an array of special products, classes, and more, and I'm so proud to be one of them!
How does this event work?
When you purchase yarn to knit your own Trust Fall Shawl from a participating LYS on Saturday April 27th, you will receive a Ravelry Coupon Code to download your copy of the shawl pattern from Ravelry.
A Low Vision and Screen Reader Accessible version of the pattern is also included! I’m on a mission to help increase the number of knitting patterns available for those with Low Vision and those who use Screen Readers to access patterns. Your pattern download includes 2 PDF files.

To support all the amazing Local Yarn Stores, the Trust Fall Shawl pattern will be FREE with the purchase of the yarn to make it the weekend of LYS Day - Saturday, April 27th and Sunday, April 28th - from participating yarn shops.
The pattern will also be available to purchase on Ravelry and Payhip.
About the Trust Fall Shawl:
Drawing inspiration from a quote by Maya Angelou, my wish is for all knitters to embrace the courage to trust the process, time and time again. Knitting a pattern can often feel like a trust fall—a leap of faith into each stitch, trusting in the accuracy of instructions, and in your own creative abilities.

The crescent shape of this shawl was selected with intention. It offers not just beauty, but ease. It’s a canvas for uninterrupted knitting, with shaping increases gracefully nestled at the beginning and end of every row.
And here's the magic: the Trust Fall Shawl is not just a pattern—it's an invitation to make it your own. With its infinite adaptability, you have the freedom to customize its size and adjust yarn usage to suit your vision.

What will you need to knit your own?
The Trust Fall Shawl uses approximately 750 yards (686 meters) of DK weight yarn.
I used 2 balls of Jody Long Alba to create the design. This subtle and stunning tweedy yarn combines a luxurious blend of Merino Wool and Superfine Alpaca, accented with a taste of viscose sourced from German sustainable forestry.
You'll also need ...
• US 7/4.5 mm 32"/80 cm circular needle (or size needed to obtain gauge)
• 3 Locking Stitch Markers - for garter tab
• 2 Regular Stitch Markers - for border sts
Note: You may substitute a different yarn with the same amount of yardage. Because of the content of the yarn, the yardage for Alba is different than a typical hand dyed DK weight yarn. Make sure to check the yardage of any yarn substitution to ensure you purchase enough of the same dye lot!

The Free LYS Day Pattern Codes will be active from Friday, April 26th at 8:00 AM Eastern until Sunday, April 28th at 11:59 PM Eastern.
Make sure to enter the code from your LYS on Ravelry! Click “add to cart” and then “use a coupon code” before checking out.
If you are purchasing yarn online to be shipped to you, kindly ask to have your unique one-time use code sent via email, so you may download the pattern while waiting for your yarn to arrive.
