you can conquer the stranded Fair Isle Knitting technique
and create your own colorful projects!
Your family, friends & fellow knitters will wonder
"How DID you DO that?!"
So ... what exactly is
Fair Isle Knitting?
Fair Isle knitting is a stranded colorwork technique that creates beautiful, multicolored patterns by carrying two different yarns across each row.
It originated in the Fair Isle, one of Scotland’s Shetland Islands, and has been used for centuries to create iconic, intricate designs.
Fair Isle knitting is a fun and rewarding skill that lets you experiment with color and design while creating warm, stunning garments like hats, mittens, and sweaters.
Some Key Features of Fair Isle Knitting:
🧶 Uses only two colors per row, even in complex patterns.
🧶 The yarn not in use is carried loosely across the back of the fabric (called "floats").
🧶 Classic designs include geometric shapes, stars, and peeries (small repeating patterns).
🧶 Easiest to work in the round to avoid purling in colorwork.

Meet Your Host
Hey there! I'm Jessica Ays, and I’m the designer and instructor behind Double the Stitches & the Stitch Society Membership.
I've been a passionate creator my whole life, and I haven't put the yarn down since I discovered it 25 years ago. Yarn has completely transformed my life.
But I remember when I was first getting started and how confusing and scary it was to try new techniques. If you're tired of searching for answers mid-project, I know exactly what it's like!
Sign up now & join me for this fun workshop where you'll learn exciting secrets and practical tips & tricks to master the Fair Isle knitting technique.
I can’t wait to see you there! 🤗
The Fair Isle Fundamentals Workshop will teach you how to knit your own beautiful and colorful projects
If you’re curious about Fair Isle Knitting, this event is for you!
I’ll be specifically talking to confident beginner knitters and beyond and focusing on the skills needed to master this fun-to-knit technique but anyone else who wants to get started with Fair Isle Knitting is welcome to join us.
It's a great technique to add to your toolbox of knitting techniques.
The Fair Isle Fundamentals Knitting workshop will be held on Zoom on Sunday, March 2nd.
A replay is included with ongoing access, and will be available to watch on demand in your workshop classroom by March 14th.
All you need is a computer or tablet, an internet connection, and a quiet space to watch.. Learn how to knit cables from your comfy spot in your comfy clothes.
A full supply list will be shared after you sign up, in your welcome email.
Special yarn is not required to participate in the challenge, but using non-superwash wool yarn will make parts of this project easier.
Yarns that are a bit "grippy" (like non-superwash wool) will help you create a fabric where you cannot see the other side peeking through.
This is a great opportunity to dive into your yarn stash and use your scraps! I highly recommend using 2 sharply contrasting colors to make it easier to recognize your stitches and see the design develop - if at all possible, one that is much lighter (think white or ivory) than the other.
I used approximately 25 total grams of Worsted Weight yarn (Craft Yarn Council category 4) and a size US 7 / 4.5 mm needle to knit my Snowy Peaks Cup Cozy.
You'll need a needle to work a small circumference in the round. A long cord for magic loop, 2 circular needles, or double-pointed needles are recommended.
The Snowy Peaks Cup Cozy pattern is included with the workshop. The digital PDF patterns will be available to download directly from our online classroom.
You are welcome to print the pattern if you prefer to work from a paper copy.
These patterns are protected by copyright, and are not to be shared or distributed, or sold.
You are welcome to sell the finished items you knit using these patterns.
Yes. All sessions have transcription available through the media player I use (vimeo).
Please reach out if there’s anything I can do to ensure you’re able to enjoy this event.
